*Continued Updates*
Notes from the Deans:
Dear MCU Advantage Students,
You have probably discovered that MCU has been impacted by the Kentucky Lake bridge incident. Our Online Learning Center is down and at this time, we do not have any idea for how long. Please try to login to the site periodically over the weekend but do not worry about submitting assignments late. This is an unfortunate situation none of us can control and we certainly would not penalize students for it. We are doing our best to monitor the situation and praying it is resolved soon. If you can access the MCU website, IT will post a statement when the situation is resolved. Enjoy your weekend.
Debra W. Hudson, PhD
Associate VP, Academic Affairs
Dear Students,
Thursday night at 8 pm, a large ship struck a bridge and cut the fiber optic cable running along US 68/US 80. This incident has removed all incoming and outgoing email and Internet access on campus. This morning a message was sent out through the Online Learning Center to all faculty and students giving information about this incident. It notifies both parties that patience should be observed by both for assignments and communcations. The Online Learning Center sent messages to the student's email accounts. Our School student email accounts are achieved through login.live.com. As of 9:30 pm this evening, those accounts were still working since they do not go to the campus.
At 2:30 pm this afternoon, the Online Learning Center stopped responding to ANYONE using AT&T or Comcast that lived West of the break. Phone calls were made East of the break at that time and access was still available. People who were using Verizon West of the break were still able to access the site after the 2:30 time frame.
AT&T is working to correct this issue. A message will be sent out to all active students and faculty who are in classes at this moment when the repairs have been completed.
C.J. Turner,
Associate Dean of Online Learning

Updates as soon as more information is available.
ReplyDeleteAs of 8:00am Services have not been restored. We appreciate you patience.
ReplyDeleteWe are hoping to have service restored by Monday. At this time we do not have a specific time. This was per CJ Turner Associate Dean of Online Learning. Of course that does mean we will have service Monday. We are dependent on ATT to resolve issues after the fiber optic cable was severed during the bridge collapse.
ReplyDeleteAs of about 6:00PM the Online Learning Center has been operational. Although midcontinent.edu email is still down. Please use the Moodle Messaging system to contact your professors.
